The Creative Arts Day Camp for children with and without special needs is a half-day program where children are immersed in creative arts in a therapeutic setting. Activities reinforce the ideal of achieving one’s maximum potential in a friendly and adaptive environment that fosters success through music, art, drama and movement/dance. Camp counselors are Marylhurst music therapy and art therapy students, supervised by practicing professional therapists.

Closing Circle 1WEBCamp offers a variety of activities for our campers, including:

  • Music Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Recreation
  • Dance and Movement Therapy
  • Sensory breaks as needed

All campers and their families are invited to a closing celebration on Friday, August 17

Camp week was a BREAK for our family and everyone looked forward to it before and during. That both the typical 6-year-old and the 9-year-old with Down Syndrome begged to attend the closing celebration says they will both be back next year! THANK YOU!

Our Counselors

BondingWEBOur counselors are Marylhurst music therapy and art therapy students. Also, each area is staffed and supervised by experienced professional music, art, drama, poetry, or dance/movement therapists. Most supervisors are CPR & First Aid certified and we have a nurse on staff. Marylhurst students and local teens may also serve as volunteer escorts who will ensure the safety of all campers.

Where have you been all of my life??? We noticed a huge difference in our son after just one day of camp. He was softer somehow. Through camp he learned that it’s really okay for all of us to be different. With his autism, it’s difficult for him to have empathy and he got that this week! Also, instead of pounding violently at the piano, for the first time in his 13-year life he started to play gently and was making up his own melody line. It was really beautiful and nearly moved me to tears. Thank you!

A little more about Creative Arts Day Camp

What are the Creative Arts?

Lillieth Grand 2015 WEBCreative arts is a term used to encompass music, dance/movement, poetry, visual arts and drama. At this camp, these arts are utilized to help our campers develop social, motor, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, sensory and creative skills.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. Art therapists are trained in both therapy and art, and have studied and mastered both psychology and human development.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is defined as the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals for people of all ages and ability levels within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

Our History

Creative Arts Day Camp began in the summer of 2007 with the recognition of need for area families to find fun and creative day experiences for their children. Coupled with a need for summer experiences for Marylhurst University creative therapies students, the Creative Arts Day Camp was born.
