Dance Therapy Workshop:
Fostering Resilience & Empowering Youth Through Dance

This continuing education workshop will include both didactic and experiential elements, exploring how to foster resilience through specific movement goals. Participants should come ready to move!

Participants will outline the Performing Ourselves program curriculum, summarizing current research on the existing fields of dance education and dance/movement therapy and the uniqueness of intentionally combining elements from each theory to build a curriculum and program. In addition, a third pillar of resiliency will be discussed, covering Kenneth Ginsburg’s 7Cs for Fostering Resilience.

Approved Continuing Education Provider, NBCC, Marylhurst UniversityFor licensed professionals seeking continuing education. Accepted by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as 3 CE hours.

Instructor: Mariah Meyer LeFeber, MA, LPC, RDMT, DTRL

Mariah Meyer Lefeber, Marylhurst UniversityMariah Meyer LeFeber is a board certified dance/movement therapist, licensed professional counselor and dance educator. She holds a dance and psychology degree from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a master of arts in dance/movement therapy and counseling from Columbia College Chicago. Mariah has worked extensively in the field of dance/movement therapy, serving people of all ages in both group and individual settings. She has written several chapters on her work with children, specifically on using dance/movement therapy with autism spectrum disorder. Mariah served as an Associate Lecturer in the University of Wisconsin – Madison dance department from 2010-2015. There she combined her passions in the co-creation of Performing Ourselves. As co-director of this unique dance outreach program, she weaves together the power of dance/movement therapy and dance education to foster resilience in underserved youth and empower girls through dance.
